Volcanoes!

Year 6 have designed, created and exploded volcanoes.

Year 6 Trip to Tayto Castle

Year 6 had an exciting visit to Tayto factory to see the process of potatoes being turned into crisps.  This fitted in brilliantly with our topic where we have been exploring the lifecycle of a potato.  Afterwards we had our picnic and some fun in the local Tandragee park.

The Dairy Council Visit

Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from the Dairy Council who taught us about the importance of keeping  a balanced lifestyle and the role dairy produce plays in it.

Cross Stitch Fun!

Somme Exhibition

Year 6 had a fantastic visit to Garvetagh Orange Hall where they had the opportunity to learn more about the Battle of the Somme and the part the Ulster Division played in it.  Among other things, they heard an interesting talk, had the opportunity to wear gas masks and to see uniforms from the period.

Cancer Council Visit

Year 6 enjoyed an informative visit from the Cancer Council who delivered a talk on the dangers of smoking.  We experimented with a net of smoke and noted how quickly it spread.  We also investigated the effect of smoke on our lungs, using a bowl of water and food colouring.

Mindfulness

Pictured below are Year 6 showing off the certifictaes they earned having completed a 10 week programme called 'Mindfulness'.  They enjoyed learning a range of meditation techniques to help them if they feel angry, upset or have difficulty sleeping.

The Vikings are here!

Many of the children in our class designed and built a Viking ship.  It had to have a sail, oars, shields and a moveable rudder.  Here are our excellent ship models with our attempt at mannequin poses!

Christmas Dinner

A huge thank you to Mrs Bustard and her amazing team for our delicious Christmas dinner!

Year 6 and 7 Christmas

Capers!

Year 6, with some energetic year 7 volunteers performed a range of Christmas carols and songs for their school friends. We also spread Christmas cheer in Castlederg by singing around the tree and at the front of some local shops. To top off our afternoon we performed for residents in the local nursing home...a very special moment!

When Santa Came to Edwards...

Year 6 had so much fun waiting for Santa's arrival and we couldn't believe it when he turned up in a rally car!

Cinderella at the Grand Opera House!

Year 6 had a fabulous trip on Friday 6th January to Belfast, to see the pantomime 'Cinderella'.

Grandparents & Grand-friends Day

Year 6 pupils would like to thank the Grandparents, parents and special friends who came to our school today.  We hope you all enjoyed our show, the cup of tea and spending time with us in our school.

Chinese New Year

As part of our 'East Meets West' topic, Year 6 had a visitor from the Culture Quarter in Londonderry.  We learned all about Chinese New Year traditions, used puppets and experienced what it is like to walk and move inside the Lion Dance costume!  Finally we had the opportunity to do some Chinese writing.

Let's Go Fly a Kite!

We have been learning about the history of the kite as part of our East Meets West topic.  Have a look at the fantastic kites we designed, created and flew.

The Birdman

A fantastic time of learning was enjoyed by all when Ian Patterson visited our school to talk about his amazing collection of birds of prey.

Congratulations!

A huge 'Well Done' to Jill, who came first in the Strabane Feis verse speaking competition.
