The Year 6 SMARTIES
We have been constructing volcanoes and experimenting with making them erupt.
During our life cycle topic we had the opportunity to care for caterpillars at home and at school. We recorded the changes we saw in a diary. After four weeks we had 'The Great Butterfly Release' in our Butterfly Garden.
European Day
Halloween
Year 6 pupils designed trick or treat bags - have a look at our amazing creations.
Year 6 Visit to The Navan Centre
As part of our topic, 'The Vikings', Year 6 enjoyed visiting the Navan Centre in County Armagh. We met some 'Vikings', used traditional weapons, investigated artefacts and wrote a passage from the book of Armagh with quills.
Year 6 and 7 in 'Panto Pandemonium'
China
We have been learning all about China. Year 6 enjoyed dressing in traditional Chinese costumes and using chopsticks. Our class divided into four groups to design and create interactive boards to display our research about China. We compared China to N. Ireland, learned about Chinese New Year and famous Chinese inventions.
Music Week - Year 6 stars!
World Book Day 2016.
We enjoyed reading to younger children in the school and learning from each other about favourite books and authors.
What's Under Your Feet?
As part of their topic 'The Environment', Year 6 are investigating the invertebrates that are in the soil under our school playing fields. They are measuring the size of their invertebrates, weighing them and using the data in a study to investigate birds and their food supply in the school area.
Cooking with Solar Power
As part of our topic "the Environment', Year 6 have been investigating using renewable energy. We made an oven out of a pizza box, cling wrap, black paper and tinfoil. Then we left it out in the sun to cook cheese on toast and marshmallows. One of of ovens went from 18 degrees to 40!
Year 6 trip to Stormont
Year 6 enjoyed an exciting trip to Stormont. We got to see and meet lots of famous MLA's, learn the history of Stormont and learn more about the electoral system. Anna had written a story about the person she would most like to have a 'selfie' taken with and her wish came true when she met our First Minister, Arlene Foster! Afterwards we enjoyed some time in the Mo Mowlan park before returning home.
